Top Three Youth Catcher Gear Sets
When buying for a youth baseball player, it’s optimal to buy equipment in sets as it will be cheaper and since the player is still growing, they will outgrow it soon enough. Each set listed below includes a helmet, chest protector, and leg guards.
Easton Youth Black Magic Catcher Box Set
Easton has been a big name is baseball and has a long history in this game. They are known to make good products in baseball at a reasonable price. If you’re looking for affordability, Easton is the company for you. This three piece catchers box set includes everything (except a catcher’s glove) a youth player needs to start catching.
The mask features a full face design which has a hard ABS shell and steel cage to prevent any objects colliding with the catcher’s face. The steel framing also gives the catcher a great view of the field reducing any hindrances that could block it.
Wilson Youth EZ Gear Catcher’s Kit
Here we have the Wilson Youth EZ Gear Catcher’s Kit. This kit was design to be simple and quickly efficient for the player. This gear set features a Quick Change closure system that helps get the gear on and off the player in 10 seconds or less. This is helped by using Velcro to secure the gear on instead of the traditional elastic straps that have metal flips on the end. With the player being inexperienced with catcher gear, this will help speed up the time between innings in getting them ready to go back out.
Louisville Slugger Youth PG Series 5 Catchers Set
The Youth PG Series 5 from Louisville takes a different approach from the last catcher’s gear set we looked at. This gear set contains no Velcro but elastic straps on the leg guards and a clip on the chest protector. The set-up is more in line of what is commonly found on more expensive gear sets. But the downfall of this is newer catchers may take a while to put their gear on as it’s harder if they’re not used to it.
What this gear set does feature is an anatomically inspired shin guards with double-knee design to help with the fit and have it less restricted range-of-motion. With younger players – especially ones who are new to catching – if they’re uncomfortable playing catcher, they will not want to play the position in the future. Having the player comfortable and not feel restricted will help.
These three catcher’s gear sets have set themselves above others in this age range. This list will be updated from time to time as new gear comes out and may be better than the ones listed above.
